Living together 2016
November 2016 - Christmas excursion to the "Ore mountains"
A bus took our 30 international researchers from the School of Science and the TUD Welcome Centerto the festively decorated Ore Mountains ("Erzgebirge"), which are famous for their lively traditions and customs during the Christmas season. A guide told our participants many interesting stories about the history of the region and about the Christmas traditions.
First, we went to the town of Freiberg and visited an 800-year-old mine. Afterwards, we had lunch and the one or other mulled wine at the famous Christmas market. In the afternoon, we visited a workshop where typical wooden Christmas figures are manufactured, before we headed back to Dresden through festively lit villages and towns of the "Erzgebirge".

June 2016 - Excursion to the Saxon Switzerland
The International Office School of Science invited international members and guests of the School of Science to an excursion to the Sächsische Schweiz on 4th June 2016. Especially at this time of year, the Saxon Switzerland is one of Saxony’s most beautiful landscapes with the unique rock formations of the Elbsandsteingebirge, the peaceful Elbe valley or famous landmarks such as the fortress Königstein. An air-conditioned bus took us to some of the most famous sights of this area and a guide told lots of important facts about the local history and culture. In the afternoon, we visited the fortress Königstein, where the participants also got the chance to sit down, have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake in one of the cafés and restaurants of the fortress or just to enjoy the magnificent view over the Saxon Switzerland.
April 2016 - Crossing bridges: Oldtimer bus tour for newcomers at TU Dresden
The TU Dresden Welcome Center and the International Office School of Science made a very special offer to international PhD students, Postdocs and guest researchers who have just arrived at TU Dresden and wanted to get to know famous and secret spots both on campus and in the city. To make it unforgettable we booked a very special vehicle that was both an eye catcher for tourists along the way and for our internationals sitting inside. Our oldtimer bus tour began with a short walk over the campus led by a very enthusiastic tour guide, continued through the city of Dresden and finished in a cozy restaurant with good food and interesting chats.
