Bi-national doctorate / Cotutelle de thèse
At TU Dresden, there is also the option of doing a bi-national doctorate: Doctoral candidates conduct research under the joint supervision of a professor from TU Dresden and a professor from an international university. One dissertation is written, but the doctorate is awarded by two universities in different countries.
In principle, bi-national doctorates can be done at all Faculties of TU Dresden. There are also no restrictions regarding the cooperating countries.
In most cases, this doctoral procedure in two countries is carried out individually.
Advice and information on bi-national doctoral projects is provided by the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden.
Doctorate with external co-supervision or joint review procedure
A regular doctorate at TU Dresden involving external co-supervision or a joint review procedure with a professor of an international university is an alternative to the Cotutelle de thèse. The research for this type of doctorate is carried out in close cooperation with an international partner. In this way, the very high bureaucratic burden that a bi-national doctorate entails is avoided.
