Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung: | Material classification, band structure and its topology, the Berry phase concept. Basics of magnetism. What are the emerging materials and why are they interesting (topological insulators and semimetals, van der Waals systems, materials with complex spin texture). Transport properties of materials and measurements methods. Electron transport in solids. Drude model, Boltzmann transport equation, Fermi-Dirac statistics. Linear response theory, Kubo formula. Ballistic transport. Resistance, resistivity and conductivity, Hall effect. Basics of thermoelectrics. Basics of superconductivity. Transport measurement techniques. Spin transport phenomena. Spin currents, spin transfer and spin torques. Spintronics (Anomalous Hall effect, Anisotropic magnetoresistance, Giant Magnetoresistance, metal/insulator and metal/semi-conductor heterostructures, magnetic tunnel junctions). Basics of spincaloritronics (anomalous Nernst effect, magneto-Seebeck). Trends in the current research. Signature of unconventional material properties in transport experiments (topological Hall effect, large magnetoresistance, chiral anomaly). Antiferromagnetic spintronics.
