ESE (First-Semester Orientation) in the Winter Semester 2026/27
Dear students, we’re looking forward to the ESE with you!
Here you’ll find the current program. It may still change until mid-September—but the ESE week is set: October 5–9, 2026!
What’s it all about?
Here you’ll find all the info on this year’s ESE events. Whether it’s parties, culture, hiking, food, drinks, games, or fun—there really is something for everyone!
The First-Semester Orientation (ESE for short) traditionally takes place one week before classes begin (October 5–9, 2026) and is designed to help you get to know the academic program, the city, the campus, and—most importantly—your fellow students. You’ll be assigned to mentoring groups and spend the week with two to three students from a higher semester and about 10 other first-year students from your degree program.
We’ve once again planned some fun activities for this week. You’ll get to explore the campus, pick up your freshman goodie bag, and take part in the Neustadt Rally.
So it’s definitely worth coming to Dresden this week!

What can you do right now?
1. Join our Discord server and our WhatsApp community, where we’ll share all relevant information about your studies.
2. Don’t stress about putting together your class schedule. Registration itself will take place during Freshman Week. Your mentors will handle this together with you. They can also explain exactly what you need to select and how.

A few general notes on the program items
Orientation Sessions
During the faculty’s orientation sessions, you’ll learn about the structure of the program and receive important information on how to plan your studies. We’ll also introduce ourselves as your Student Council (FSR) and assign you to the mentoring groups where you’ll spend the week.

Campus Tour
Your mentors will show you the most important places on campus that you’ll need for your studies. For bachelor’s students, this will also be the first chance to meet your fellow students in person.
Neustadt Rally
A highlight of the week. The groups will be reshuffled, and you’ll compete against the other teams in various games. We’ve made sure to have plenty of alcohol on hand for those of you who’d like to have a drink.
Bring & Eat
If the weather’s nice, we’ll meet in the Großer Garten—Dresden’s “green lung”—for a casual get-together over coffee. Bring your favorite foods and treat yourself to the delicious treats your fellow students bring. Whether it’s puff pastry rolls, homemade bread with hummus, classic pasta salad, or your favorite spread from the supermarket around the corner—just bring whatever you like. Please also don’t forget to bring your own dishes—for the sake of the environment.
If the weather isn’t on our side, we’ll meet at the BZW (we’ll let you know the exact room later).
NeuroTanzMission
THE highlight of the week and THE party to be at! It’s time to get your synapses firing on all cylinders and let those endorphins run wild! Extremely popular with psychology students and students from all other departments alike. The party during the winter semester is traditionally our loud, dance-filled “Welcome!” to the new freshmen. Use the party to get to know your new classmates or just let your party spirit run wild!
