New publication on social-affective responses to trauma exposure and psychopathology
In a recent study of trauma-exposed German soldiers, Sarah Thomas, Philipp Kanske, and colleagues shed light on the complex interplay between social-affective responses to trauma and psychopathology. Their findings show that experiences of social alienation, shame, guilt, and revenge predict several mental disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder, depressive disorder, and alcohol use disorder. These social-affective responses to trauma exposure may represent promising treatment targets for both cognitive and emotion-focused interventions.
