New publication introducing a framework to understand mind-action gaps of sustainable behaviour
The urgent calls for sustainability by the younger generation and the scientific community are dampened by failures to recognise the value and voice of nature. Indeed, it is unclear how individuals can bridge the gap between their beliefs and actions in order to build sustainable and caring relationships with nature. Indigenous ways of understanding the world might offer a solution for this divide. Susanne Müller, Martina Artmann and Caroline Surrey published a conceptual paper proposing a two-step approach. First, the concept of "human-nature resonance" is utilised as a framework to study psychological transformations and the development of the necessary capabilities to foster a harmonious relationship with nature. Second, a ritual-based intervention that draws on insights from psychotherapy to nurture and enrich the connection between humans and nature is proposed. The authors call for a holistic approach that considers the interconnection between humans and the natural world.
