New review article on mimicry and affective disorders
A new review article on mimicry and affective disorders by Maike Salazar Kämpf and Philipp Kanske has been published in Frontiers in Psychiatry. Mimicry occurs when we spontaneously imitate our interaction partners and helps promote closeness in interpersonal relationships. As people with affective disorders often have interpersonal difficulties, the question arises to what extent mimicry might underlie their problems to maintain interpersonal relationships. The review article explores five different theories of mimicry to highlight how these differing conceptualisations affect our understanding of the implications of disturbed mimicry processes for people with bipolar disorder, dysthymia and depression.
