Study requirements
• Completed university degree program, in which linguistic and/or language teaching skills have been acquired
• Fundamental knowledge of linguistics and/or German as a foreign or second language with respect to current linguistic research positions, theories and contemporary methods of quantitative and/or qualitative analysis (assessment interview)
• English proficiency (B2) and,
• if the “Language Diversity” track is chosen, proficiency in one of the following languages: Italian, Polish, Czech, Russian, Spanish, French, Sorbian, Latin, Greek
German language requirements
International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
Registration for the aptitude assessment or the NC selection process as well as application for admission to a degree program
Your degree program requires you to take part in an aptitude assessment or selection process. To do this, you must have the following documents ready. You will be informed after your online application in which form and deadline the documents will be requested from you (by post or online). Please make sure that your application number, which was assigned to you when applying online, is indicated in your application documents. If you are unable to apply via the selma portal before the deadline, you don’t need to include your application number.
Degree-specific information and documents
• Application for the suitability assessment on the webpage of the faculty
• Copy of the original and officially certified translation (German or English) of the degree certificate of the required first university degree including official transcript of records. If the first university degree is not yet available: Confirmation from the first university that at least 80% of the work required for the current university degree programme has been completed, as well as information on the current average grade for degree programmes with entry restrictions (form on the Admission Office website
• Appropriate documents to prove particular suitability
• Proof of English:
a) certificate of the general or subject-related university entrance qualification (Zeugnis der allgemeinen / fachgebundenen Hochschulreife) with an advanced course (Leistungskurs) in English (with level C1 indicated) or
b) certificate of the university entrance qualification completed entirely in English or certificate of a higher education degree completed entirely in English or
c) the following English certificates given as an example: TOEFL (108 internet-based), IELTS (7), UNIcert III
