Innovation in Research and Teaching - this is the motto that underscores this year’s welcome ceremony at TU Dresden on October 5, 2023, signaling the start of a new academic year. Almost 6,300 first-year students have enrolled at TUD so far for this year’s winter semester, bringing our total number of students to over 30,500. The final figures will be available on November 1, 2023.

"The fact that we have been able to maintain and even slightly increase our enrollment figures at TUD, despite the previous national trend of declining student numbers, constitutes a great success," says Rector of TU Dresden, Prof. Ursula Staudinger. "This is a testament to how attractive TUD and the university city of Dresden are, especially for international students."

Almost 1,300 of our newly enrolled students hail from other countries. TUD boasts a total of around 5,700 international students from 130 nations - making up around 18.7 percent of our total numbers. China and India are the countries most strongly represented. In addition to traditional undergraduate subjects such as computer science, chemistry, and electrical engineering, TUD also offers 25 Master’s degree programs taught entirely in English, which are in particularly high demand amongst international applicants. Six new courses have been added to the roster for the 2023 winter semester:

• International Studies in Intellectual Property Law and Data Law
• Air Transport and Logistics
• Mathematics
• Technomathematics
• Public and International Economics
• Mathematics in Business and Economics

As for its German-language degree programs, TU Dresden has expanded its teacher-training programs to include biology, chemical engineering and automotive engineering. In addition, there is a new Bachelor's degree program Humanities, Cultural and Social Sciences, in which numerous majors can be combined. Prospective students at TUD can now choose from a total of 119 degree programs.
