Study requirements
• vocational university degree or degree from a public or state-recognized vocational academy in one of the natural sciences (preferably physics, biophysics or quantitative biology) or in engineering (e.g. applied mechanics, engineering and nanotechnology) or another comparable university degree with comparable prior knowledge (in particular with a sound knowledge of physics)
• proficiency in English at advanced level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
• sound command of the fundamentals of classical physics with mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, thermodynamics and quantum theory as well as sound knowledge of higher mathematics and fundamental knowledge of chemistry and biology - proof will be provided as part of an aptitude assessment procedure
Registration for the aptitude assessment or the NC selection process as well as application for admission to a degree program
Your degree program requires you to take part in an aptitude assessment or selection process. To do this, you must have the following documents ready. You will be informed after your online application in which form and deadline the documents will be requested from you (by post or online). Please make sure that your application number, which was assigned to you when applying online, is indicated in your application documents. If you are unable to apply via the selma portal before the deadline, you don’t need to include your application number.
Degree-specific information and documents
• Registration for the aptitude assessment procedure online via the degree program’s web page
• Copy of the original and officially certified translation (German or English) of the degree certificate of the required first university degree including official transcript of records. If the first university degree is not yet available: Confirmation from the first university that at least 80% of the work required for the current university degree programme has been completed, as well as information on the current average grade for degree programmes with entry restrictions (form on the Admission Office website
• Other study achievements and examined assessments (in German and English) in the following areas, if available: foundations in classical physics with mechanics, electrodynamics, optics and thermodynamics, and in quantum theory, advanced mathematics, as well as foundations in chemistry and biology
• Proof of sufficient proficiency in English via relevant language or academic certificates. This can take the form of:
a) A certificate of general or subject-specific university entrance qualification with an advanced course completed in English,
b) A certificate of university entrance qualification completed exclusively in English,
c) A diploma from a university degree completed exclusively in English, or
d) English certificates such as TOEFL IBT 92 (New: 4.5), IELTS (at least 6.5) or comparable language certificates.
• Two letters of recommendation, preferably from university lecturers (in German or English)
• Copies of additional qualifications, e.g. extracurricular achievements and activities, professional practice etc., which can provide proof of aptitude
