Welcome to virTUos
virTUos reaches milestone - project ends on 31.12.2025
After five years of intensive collaboration with over 50 participants, the virTUos project is coming to an end. From December 31, 2025, no more new content will be published - but the website will remain online and accessible.
During this time, virTUos has sustainably shaped and developed digital teaching and learning spaces at TU Dresden. Ideas became bridges: between face-to-face and online, between disciplines, students and lecturers - and even between institutions worldwide. The results are publicly accessible as OER and will enrich teaching in the long term.
Many thanks to all employees, students, partners and the Innovation in University Teaching Foundation, which made this project possible with 3.7 million euros.

virTUos (virtual teaching and learning at TU Dresden in an open source context) is a cross-departmental
a cross-departmental network for the further development of digitally supported university teaching with the strategic goal of anchoring modern teaching and learning concepts in the curriculum and is funded as an individual project from 2021 to 2025 by the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching (StIL) in the funding line Strengthening university teaching through digitization.
virTUos is based on the experience of developing digitally supported university teaching - largely insular solutions without anchoring them in curricula and regulations - and innovates them according to the following guidelines:
- Hybrid teaching and learning is a pillar of a collaborative university development strategy at TUD, which is being driven forward in the areas of activity of internships & assessment formats, collaboration & internationalization and skills development & open teaching.
- Novel teaching and learning scenarios are constantly being further developed by two agile innovation teams (Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Linguistics, Business Administration and Economics), which take didactic and digital skills into account. An integration team coordinates scaling/transfer and develops the interlinking of central and decentralized support structures in the HYBRID strategy along the requirements for course development and examination law interpretation.
- Students are not only users, but also partners and designers in the aforementioned teams and the Steering Committee.
- In virTUos, concepts of open teaching are developed as open educational practices on an interdisciplinary basis and further developed/used across universities.
