Mobility Planning in European Cities
Welcome to the information page of the research study "Mobility Planning in European Cities"
We are pleased that you are interested in our research study.
Due to the revision of the TEN-T Regulation, strategic urban mobility planning in the European Union (EU) will undergo significant changes in the coming years. By the end of 2027, all major cities across the European Union (431 urban nodes) are required to adopt a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and carry out monitoring based on the European concept of Urban Mobility Indicators (UMI).
With this new legal framework, the European Commission aims to ensure that European cities actively engage in strengthening sustainable, efficient, and multimodal transport systems.
Conversation with European Cities
As part of the study "Mobility Planning in European Cities" researchers from the Chair of Mobility System Planning at TUD Dresden University of Technology (Germany), in cooperation with the Department of Built Environment at Aalto University (Finland), would like to engage in conversation with employees of EU cities' administrations.
An important part of the study will be expert interviews conducted in spring and summer 2026 with employees involved in strategic mobility planning in selected European cities. Below, you will find further information.
The interviews are addressed to employees of European cities (urban nodes) who are preferably involved in mobility and transport planning in their municipality. Participation in the interviews is, of course, voluntary.
By participating in the study, you will be supporting research in the field of strategic urban mobility planning in Europe. We will be pleased to share the findings of this study with you upon completion so that you and your institution can also benefit from them.
The interviews focus on questions relating to local mobility and transport planning, and in particular on the new obligations under the TEN-T Regulation. The participating municipalities will receive an overview of all interview content prior to the interview date.
The interview will take approximately one hour.
