1820 Appointment of H. G. L. Reichenbach (1793-1879) from Leipzig as Professor of Natural History at the Surgical-Medical Academy and Inspector of the Royal Natural History Cabinet. Head of the Botanical Garden.
1879 O. Drude (1852-1933) was appointed Professor of Botany at the Dresden Polytechnic Institution and foundation of the 1st Botanical Institute near the main train station.
1893 Opening of today's Botanical Garden at Stübelallee
1924 Appointment of F. Tobler (1879-1957) as Professor of Botany at the TH Dresden, expert for natural fibre research
1945 Destruction of the Botanical Institute
1945 Reconstruction of a botany training in temporary facilities in the TU Dresden campus area
1951 Appointment of H. Ulbricht (1909-1989) as Professor of Botany
1952 Inauguration of the Drude Building as 2nd Botanical Institute
1968 3rd University reform of the GDR with closure of the Institute of Botany
1990 Recommendation of the Saxon University Commission to the Saxon Minister of State for Science and Art on the reconstruction of biology and institutes required for this.
1992 Appointment of W. Hempel (1936-2012) as Professor of Botany ('Allgemeine Botanik')(until 2002)
1993 Appointment of M. Tesche (1934-2013) as Professor of Botany ('Spezielle Botanik')(until 1999)

1999 Appointment of J. Ludwig-Müller as Professor of Plant Physiology
