Public Tour on October 18: Rock Piles – Rock Beds – Rock Garden: Creating Rock Biotopes in the Garden
Mountain plants, such as this germander, are masters of survival. They manage to germinate in rock crevices with very little soil.
The upcoming Sunday tour is all about rocks—more specifically, living rock biotopes, not gravel gardens! Our “Alpinum” garden specialist will explain how this special garden area in the Botanical Garden came to be. A new crevice garden for high-mountain plants from Greece and Turkey was just completed there in 2023. In addition to tips on designing valuable rock biotopes in your own garden, you’ll also gain insights into the fascinating world of plants that are true specialists and survival experts—and learn about the adaptations and strategies they use to withstand the harsh conditions of the high mountains.
The meeting point is at 10 a.m. in front of the main entrance to the Botanical Garden at Stübelallee 2.
The tour is free of charge. Donations are welcome.
In the event of very bad weather, we will unfortunately have to cancel the event.
