Public Tour on July 19, 2026: Bionics—Plants as a Source of Inspiration for Technology
The folding mechanism of the South African bird-of-paradise flower (Strelitzia reginae) served as the model for the bionic product Flectofin®.
Whether it’s Velcro, dirt-repellent facades, self-repairing building materials, or salt spreaders—all these inventions are modeled after nature. During a public Sunday tour, Prof. Dr. Christoph Neinhuis will explain how researchers are developing new technical solutions based on the unique adaptations of plants and animals. He holds the Chair of Botany at TU Dresden and serves as director of the Botanical Garden. The tour meets at 2:00 p.m. in the garden’s entrance area at Stübelallee 2.
All public tours are free of charge—donations are welcome!
In case of continuous rain, the event may be canceled.
