Public Guided Tour on September 20: Gardeners’ Jargon—What Do Botanical Names Tell Us?

Botanical plant names often sound complicated, sometimes flowery - but behind them lie fascinating stories and clues about the plants they describe. During the upcoming Sunday tour on September 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., the Botanical Garden’s Technical Manager, Matthias Bartusch, will present some interesting examples. Learn what species names like officinalis, repens, glauca, biloba, or globosa reveal about the plants’ appearance, origin, and characteristics. Together, we’ll decipher this “garden jargon” and get to know the plants from a whole new perspective.
The meeting point for the tour is at 2 p.m. at the main entrance on Stübelallee.
