Where new green awakens: the buds of deciduous trees and shrubs in spring
The days are noticeably getting longer again and nature is awakening from its winter slumber. In the Botanical Garden, you can observe how new life is slowly unfolding in a variety of ways. Next Sunday (1th of March), to coincide with the meteorological start of spring, the buds of deciduous trees and shrubs will be the focus of a public guided tour. Dendrologist Bernd Schulz from the Institute of Botany has a keen eye for detail. His precise botanical drawings, not only of buds and branches, are used in the literature on the identification of woody plants. On a tour of the garden's outdoor area, you can discover with him how buds are constructed, the variety of shapes and how different species can be identified by their buds.
After the tour, the first herbaceous heralds of spring, such as snowdrops, crocus and winter aconites, invite you to explore the Botanical Garden.
The meeting point for the guided tour is 10 a.m. in the entrance area of the garden at Stübelallee 2. All public guided tours are free of charge - donations welcome!
Subject to change! Open-air events may be canceled in the event of continuous rain. Registration is not required.
