7th Doctoral Student Days at Boysen GmbH in Altensteig, Germany (8th - 10th of May 2019)
An agenda filled with diverse activities and events awaited the participants of the 7th Doctoral Student Days at Boysen GmbH in Altensteig. Most of the participants began to arrive already on May 7th, including the current members of research training group, Managing Director Dr. Martius, and the group's spokesmen, Prof. Hurtado and Prof. Hagen from Dresden. Doctoral students and supervisors from other universities, supported by Boysen GmbH as well, were also in attendance, including the universities of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. At a group dinner in the local inn "Hirsch", the attendeees could gather their strength for the coming days with a hearty regional meal. Prof. Fasoulas, Chairman of the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation, welcomed all present and announced a special feature of the 7th Doctoral Students Days: for the first time, so many projects werde being funded that one day was not enough to present them all. He promised an exciting day and a half full of intellectual exchange, discussions and, for the first time, a model helicopter flight presentation which would demonstrate the results of a research project in a very practical way.
On the first day, Prof. Hurtado provided an introduction of the new research group of the
TU Dresden, followed by the subprojects of the various clusters being presented by the doctoral students themselves, allowing time for open discussion among all participants. Other attendees also presented the results of their research.
After 26 presentations, the attendees were treated to an impressive factory tour in Simmersfeld and the model helicopter flight presentation by Felix Fechner from the Institute of Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics of the University of Stuttgart. Mr. Fechner had presented his project Noise Reduction and Increase Efficiency of Helicopters during the lectures earlier in the day.
Back at the "Hirsch" restaurant, Mr. Rolf Geisel, Managing Director of Boysen GmbH, gave a speech at dinner in which he reported on the development of Boysen and inspired the participants with the motto No risk, no future! to motivate them to seek new, courageous roads, especially within their research. The impulse, supported by the exciting lectures of the day, led to an evening filled with exciting discussions and interdisciplinary exchange.
On the second day, Mr. Michael Fischer, Head of the Development Department and Member of the Foundation Board, opened the day with a talk about the Boysen company, specifically regarding current development and research topics. The focus of this day was then turned to presentations of the results of the funded projects of the universities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. After a group lunch in the cafeteria of Boysen, the 7th Doctoral Student Days ended.
Many thanks to the organizers and, of course, Boysen GmbH for their invitation and hospitality! Through the various project presentations, the atmosphere of support and camaraderie, and the inspiration of Mr. Rolf Geisel, all participants gained valuable knowledge and direction for their future and ongoing research projects.
