Alumni Talk with Dr. Thuß on April 7th, 2022
After the first lecture of this series in December last year (see News), Dr. Thuß, former scholarship holder of the 1st Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group, continued the series of the Alumni Talk on April 07, 2022. Dr. Thuß started to work on his topic Political Parties and the Implementation of Sustainable Energy Systems 10 years ago and successfully defended his PhD thesis "Germany, a solar fairy tale? The second phase of the energy transition between directional conflict and system integration" successfully defended (see News). After two previous professional positions, he has been working as a team leader for cycling promotion at the Federal Office for Goods Transport in Dresden since 01/2020.
He reported on his time at the Research Training Group, the development of his research question(s) from a political science perspective in the time of priority changes within the energy transition, and the challenges of an interdisciplinary PhD thesis in particular.
Dr. Thuß gave valuable advice to the scholars, such as: "... write down every insight immediately, because you'll never be that smart again on the topic you're currently so heavily involved with." He also strongly advised finishing the dissertation during the period of funding from the Research Training Group, and referred to his own experience as a family man in a new job with several chapters of his dissertation still to be finished. The scholars asked questions, especially about methods used in his work, and there are already some opportunities here to support young scholars.
