Visualization of the flames in the combustion chamber of a pulsation reactor
Part of the research in Project A3 of the 3rd Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group (worked on by Ms. Chunliang Zhang) was to investigate the flame behavior in the combustion chamber of a pulsation reactor. This required and still requires a series of experiments to measure high-frequency flames. In the experiments, a high-speed camera (2000 frames per second) is used for continuous imaging. Ms. Zhang, last representative of the 3rd RTG, will finish the series of experiments in May 2023. The figure above shows the changes of the flame recorded by the high-speed camera during a pulse period . The study of flame behavior enables the demonstration of the different phases of combustion in the pulsation reactor and can also be used to study the ignition conditions and fuel premixing.
Ms. Zhang is currently working on a paper with the working title "Flame behavior and flow velocity in a pulsation reactor", for which the experimental series have already been completed. This paper is validation of one of the theories in the previously published cluster paper of cluster A, which gave an overview of the research in this cluster: Heidinger, S.; Spranger, F.; Dostál, J.; Zhang, C.; Klaus, C.
