Doctoral student Stefan Röher at the Bunsen Conference 2023 in Berlin
In the middle of Berlin, near the world time clock, the 122nd Bunsen Conference took place in the Congress Center at Alexanderplatz from June 5 to 7, 2023. Over three days, more than 500 participants from the field of physical chemistry were able to marvel at 121 lectures and 310 posters. Applied, experimental, and also theoretical work was presented under the guiding theme of "Physical Chemistry of Energy Conversion". The focus was on materials that can be used in the field of battery technology, water electrolysis, fuel cells, or the catalysis of ammonia. At the same time, measurement methods and the characterization of these materials were critically examined.
The Boysen-TUD Research Training Group was represented by doctoral student Stefan Röher (project G2: Functionalised carbon materials and operando analysis for the molecular understanding of electrocatalytic activation of oxygen and hydrogen), who presented a poster on the latest experiences with the catalyst investigated within Cluster G. Interesting discussions arose, and once again the desire to present the results of his research was expressed. This gave rise to interesting discussions and once again the desire to establish noble metal-free catalysts as a valid option in the hydrogen economy.
The Bunsen Conference 2023 again confirmed the important status of physical chemistry. In order to initiate a successful energy transition, it requires a deep understanding of the exact chemical processes in the system, paving the way to a greener and more sustainable world. The energy with which this goal is being pursued was clearly felt at the Bunsen 2023 conference.
