Doctoral students at the 15th International Modelica Conference in Aachen
From October 9 to 11, 2023, the 15th International Modelica Conference took place in Aachen, where the international Modelica community gathered to discuss developments in the modeling language. Our doctoral students Christian Gutsche(TP F4: Monitoring concept "Sustainability of H2 production") and Zizhe Wang(TP F6: Hydrogen4GreenIT) presented their paper "PNRG - A Library for Modeling Variable Structure Energy Grids in Modelica using Energetic Petri Nets" with a poster at this conference.
The paper deals with investigations into the use of hybrid Petri nets for modeling energy systems, in particular energy parks. The Petri nets are used to represent the physical system as well as to realize the control mechanism. The paper will be published shortly by the conference organizing team.

Zizhe Wang and Christian Gutsche with their poster contribution
Doctoral student Christian Gutsche says about his experience during the conference:
"It's nice to see that the idea of the work presented in the paper was met with interest. Valuable comments and new, exciting ideas were collected in conversations during the poster sessions and in the breaks."
Zizhe Wang adds:
"The conversations with the luminaries of the Modelica community were particularly inspiring. The discussions with the scientists who laid the foundation for today's widely used modeling language 30 years ago are valuable and cannot be replaced by just reading papers."
The time frame of the conference also gave our doctoral students the opportunity to get to know the city's long and important history for Europe. In addition to the old town with Aachen Cathedral, the cathedral of Charlemagne, they were also able to visit the RWTH campus. Today, the university dominates the cityscape and is the second largest university in Germany in terms of student numbers.
