Mobility in Transition – Riding the DDc Science Tram (25.02.2020)
The future of mobility is not only the subject of interdisciplinary research at the 3rd Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group, the DDc Science Tram from DRESDEN-concept also invited interested residents from Dresden on 25.02.2020 for a special trip to discuss “Mobility in Transition” with scientists from the field.
In four introductory presentations, the 40 or so interested participants were given insights into the current state of research by scientists from the HTW Dresden and the TU Dresden.
Richard Hartl, PhD student at the 3rd Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group, introduced a systemic view of the change in socio-technical transport systems with a focus on the interaction between technology and society. He made reference to the interdependent system elements, their path dependencies, and possible interpretations, which led to exciting discussions.
His lecture was followed by the doctoral students Andrea Hauslbauer and Corinna Drexler. They questioned the participants of the DDc Science Tram about their own understanding of a “traffic turnaround” and focused on mass media communication about such a turnaround and public opinion with regard to new technologies, political decisions, ethical discourses, and economic interests. It quickly became clear in the discussions that individual mobility behavior also plays an important role in the future of overall mobility systems.
In addition, DRESDEN-concept succeeded in presenting a variety of scientific perspectives through further lectures by Prof. Toralf Trautmann (HTW Dresden) and Daniel Haalboom (TU Dresden). This enabled the participants to learn about the strength of the Saxon research alliance on this special tram ride. The feedback from the citizens about the special trip "Mobility in Transition" was very positive, with discussions continuing long after the tram had reached its final destination.
