The Research Training Group hosted a musical evening
In a cheerful interplay of science and art, the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group hosted a small musical event on November 15, 2023 to mark the inauguration of the new digital piano. The evening was permeated by melodies of different timbres, convivial get-togethers and academic spirit. Making music not only promotes academic capabilities, but also creative thinking, identification with the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group and the exchange of ideas between members of the school across disciplines. A special feature of the evening was the esteemed presence of the Chancellor of the TUD Dresden University of Technology, Dipl.-Ök. Jan Gerken, whose support had made the purchase of the electric piano possible. His visit gave the event an additional reason for joy and it was an honor to share this happy occasion with him.
The event began with an introduction and an inspiring speech by our speaker Prof. Antonio Hurtado. He explained the history of the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group to the Chancellor and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary exchange for our research. Chancellor Jan Gerken also introduced himself and expressed his delight at the visit to the Research Training Group.
The speeches were accompanied by music. Doctoral student Fellow Zizhe Wang took center stage and enchanted the audience with the grace of two piano pieces. First, he played the poignant "Adagio cantabile" from Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as the "Pathétique". This emotional moment continued as Mr. Wang moved on to a riveting performance of Frédéric Chopin's Waltz No. 10 in B minor, Op. 69 No. 2, a masterpiece composed by Chopin at the tender age of 19. The evening reached its climax with another musical contribution from
Stefan Röher, who performed Georg Ottermann's emotional Notturno, Op. 43 No. 3 on his cello. The evening was not only a celebration of musical talent, but also an opportunity for exciting conversations. Participants were able to have enriching discussions with fellow students over delicious finger food and take the opportunity to connect with supervisors of other PhD projects, which fostered a sense of community within our research group.
The event was an example of the harmonious combination of science and art and embodies the team spirit that characterizes the Research Training Group. As the doctoral students continue their academic journey, this musical evening will serve as a reminder of the diverse talents that make the research group unique and immensely enriching.
The Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group would like to thank everyone who made this wonderful evening possible. Special thanks go to Chancellor Jan Gerken for accepting the invitation and taking the opportunity to meet in person.
