New paper published in the "International Journal of Hydrogen Energy"
We are pleased to announce the publication of the article "Projecting technological advancement of electrolyzers and the impact on the competitiveness of hydrogen" in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (Impact Factor 8.1, Cite Score 13.5).
The paper by doctoral student Lauritz Bühler (TP H5 - Technological Learning and the Competitiveness of Selected Hydrogen Technologies) and his supervisor Prof. Dominik Möst, Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics, looks at developments in electrolysis technologies for the production of green hydrogen.
Green hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize sectors and processes and should therefore play an important role in the energy system to achieve climate targets. However, hydrogen produced from fossil fuels is still predominantly used. The switch from fossil fuels to green hydrogen depends to a large extent on when and at what price green hydrogen will be available, which in turn depends on the technological development of electrolyzers.
In the new publication by Lauritz Bühler and Prof. Möst, experience curves are used to estimate the future technological developments of electrolyzers. Using Monte Carlo simulation and parameter variation, hydrogen production costs are predicted and a position is taken on the economic viability of hydrogen.
