Cluster F - Start of the new doctoral student
On February 15th, 2024, the fourth Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group welcomed a new international doctoral student.
A very warm welcome to Mr. Sampath Weerappulli (2nd from left on photo above) from Sri Lanka! In the upcoming years, he will be working under the supervision of Prof. Matthias Mauder, Chair of Meteorology at TU Dresden on project F3 which is focused on the biogeophysical effect on agroecosystems, taking into account possible feedback effects on the local climate due to the expansion of wind farms.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Sampath Buddhika Wijerathna spent six years working in his native country in the construction and water resources management industries. Next, prior to joining the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group, he had completed the Hydro Science and Engineering master's program at TU Dresden, whose thesis topic examined the effect of different forest edges on atmospheric mass and energy transport. This experience helped him to gain a deeper understanding of the behaviour of wind and energy flows and ultimately enabled him to join the interdisciplinary Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group.
During the welcoming session, Sampath Weerappulli acknowledged that he felt very welcomed and enjoyed meeting with the other doctoral students. He was delighted to be part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking community. In addition, he confirms:
“Together, as a team, I believe we can elevate our collective efforts to achieve the ambitious targets set by the group. The passion and dedication I witnessed today reaffirmed my confidence in our ability to make meaningful contributions to our respective fields.”
The fourth Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group is looking forward to working with Sampath Weerappulli with the aim of further promoting productive and interdisciplinary teamwork.
