New publication by doctoral students of the 3rd RTG now available
The former doctoral students of Cluster A ("New Materials for the transformation of traffic") of the 3rd Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group Chunliang Zhang, Dr. Stefan Heidinger and Jakub Dostál have been able to present a joint publication entitled "Experimental Investigation of a Pulsation Reactor via Optical Methods" since February 2024, which was published in the MDPI journal Processes 2024 and prepared together with Prof. Stefan Odenbach and Dr. Stefan Günther (both from the Chair of Magnetofluiddynamics, Measuring and Automation Technology).
Summary: Material treatment in pulsation reactors (PR) enables the synthesis of powdery products with adjustable properties on an industrial scale. Understanding the flame behavior, flow fields and ignition mechanisms is crucial for efficiency. In a study, the flame behavior in a Helmholtz-type PR was investigated and the flame propagation and velocity were analyzed using optical methods. The results correlate the flame brightness with the air-fuel equivalence ratio and provide insights into system stability and energy transfer efficiency. This research contributes to the understanding of flame propagation in PRs and demonstrates powerful experimental methods to study combustion processes.
