How is the traffic/ mobility turnaround framed?
On March 18th and 19th, 2021, the German Political Science Association (GPSA) organized the interdisciplinary conference “Renaissance of Transport Policy” - Political Science Perspectives at Bielefeld University. Scientists from Germany and Switzerland came together to discuss research on transport and infrastructure policy issues.
In the thematic block “Hegemony, Conflicts and Politicization of Transport”, fellow Corinna Drexler (C2, Media and Communication Studies) presented the research project “'Transport / Mobility Turnaround' in Germany 2020 - Public Communication from Industry, Science, Politics and Media” from Cluster C of the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group. The research project was developed in interdisciplinary collaboration within the cluster and combines the multi-level perspective approach to socio-technical transitions according to Geels, with the framing approach according to Entman.
On the one hand, the qualitative study provides insights into which problems relevant actors in automobility are communicating in connection with a traffic / mobility transition and who or what they consider to be responsible for those problems. On the other hand, it was also identified which proposals the actors offer to solve these problems and who is seen to be responsible for acting accordingly.
