Ten years later: a reunion full of memories and new stories

The alumni of the 2nd RTG - - f.l.t.r.: Dr. Alice Freiberg, Falk Hanisch, Dr. Christoph Zöphel, Dr. Nick Pruditsch, Dr. Anna-Elisabeth Wollstein-Lehmkuhl, Anne Wolak, Dr. Frederik Plewnia und Lev Lexow
Last weekend, 28.06.25, the time had come: eight former doctoral students of the 2nd Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group came together to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their group. The 2nd RTG began on July 1, 2015 - at that time still in the office building on Strehlener Straße. What began as a scientific project entitled "Pathways to environmentally friendly, safe and competitive energy systems: Technical Feasibility and Societal Impact", became a formative time for many - academically, personally and in terms of friendship.
The joy of the reunion was correspondingly great, as the former doctoral students no longer all live and work in Dresden. Career paths, private decisions and life itself have scattered them in all directions - from Dortmund to Berlin to Singapore.
The day began in a relaxed and informal way: the former doctoral students met up with their partners and children in the Großer Garten for ice cream in the open air. In a relaxed atmosphere, initial conversations were held, curious questions were asked, children were introduced - and, of course, one or two anecdotes from their time as colleagues were recalled.
In the evening, the actual alumni meeting took place in the "Alte Wettbüro" in Dresden's Neustadt district. There was plenty of chatting, laughing and reminiscing in a relaxed atmosphere. It became clear how differently life and career paths have developed - and yet all participants were still united by the common foundation of their time at the RTG. Plans for the future were also discussed: career plans, possible relocations, new additions to the family - and of course the desire to stay in touch.
The reunion was more than just a look back. It was living proof of how "sustainable" the time in the Research Training Group has been - professionally, personally and amicably. And one thing is clear after this weekend: this was certainly not the last reunion.
