Reconstruction of the Bornplatz Synagogue Hamburg - 1st prize for Schulz and Schulz
On 21 October 2025, the President of the Parliament of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg officially opened the exhibition of the designs for the realization competition for the reconstruction of the Bornplatz Synagogue.
In December 2024, the processing phase of the international realization competition for the reconstruction of the Bornplatz Synagogue began, in which 25 teams from architecture and landscape architecture firms took part. In the first jury meeting in May 2025, seven designs were selected for further processing. On September 17 and 18, the jury unanimously selected the winning design of the competition. The authors of the design are Professors Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz (Chair of Architectural Design and Construction I) with their architectural firm Schulz und Schulz Architekten (Leipzig) in collaboration with Haberland Architekten and POLA Landschaftsarchitekten (both Berlin).
The exhibition in the Rathausdiele will be showing all seven entries from the second competition phase and the 25 designs submitted in the first competition phase until November 10, 2025. In addition, all plans from both competition phases can be viewed online at www.ausstellung.luchterhandt.de.
