The IBK at Dresden Science Night 2026
Hands-on building physics—get involved and join the discussion. The lab team from the Institute of Building Climatology participated in this year’s “Dresden Science Night” with a diverse program.
At our booth, visitors could test their knowledge in a quiz about myths in building physics: Is it really true that walls “breathe”? And is insulation always a good idea? Those who wanted to learn more could then simulate their own dream home and see firsthand how building physics parameters affect energy consumption and indoor climate.
The board game “Energize” offered a playful way to make the challenges of the energy transition tangible. At a digital kiosk, we also provided information about the NeutralPath research project: As part of the EU’s mission for climate-neutral and smart cities, NeutralPath supports, among other things, the city of Dresden in becoming a pioneer in the development of so-called Positive and Clean Energy Districts and in achieving climate neutrality and CO2 neutrality by 2030. The IBK is involved in the project as the lead planning Institute and, based on example properties, is developing universally applicable models for equipping buildings with GHG-neutral building services and energy-efficient building envelopes.
We were supported at the event by a representative from the City of Dresden and a representative from Energie Sachsen, who presented the project from their respective practical perspectives and engaged in conversation with the guests.
We would like to thank all visitors for their interest, the many thought-provoking questions, and the lively discussion. We thoroughly enjoyed introducing building physics and current research to a broad public!
