Development of a digital data model for the DGNB certification system
Entwicklung eines digitalen Datenmodells für das DGNB Zertifizierungssystem
Sustainable construction is one of the most central components in the fight against the climate crisis. Although running costs are often lower during the period of use, sustainable buildings are often significantly more expensive during their construction. Funding for such projects can be awarded on the basis of sustainability certificates such as the DGNB. However, these certificates themselves are usually non-transparent, time-consuming and correspondingly expensive.
This work therefore developed software that can completely take over the calculation process of the assessment and output its comprehensive results, providing clear indications of discrepancies and an overview of the certification and its current status. In this way, people who are less familiar with the assessment process (such as the actual builders themselves) are also helped to find out about the certification. The actual planning team, which often only provides the required evidence that extends over the entire planning phase, could also be better informed in advance about the scope of the additional work involved and thus lead the planning itself to a more straightforward process.
Another part of the work was a validation of the "DGNB System Criteria Catalog for New Buildings Version 2023". In the course of this, a number of questions arose. Reasons and corresponding measures for these questions were considered as part of the documentation.
In addition to faster assessment and improved transparency, which in turn could already have a significant impact on the costs of certification, there is also the possibility of integration (e.g. in the form of a plugin) into existing building simulation software such as VICUS Building. This would not only result in further time and therefore cost savings, but also increased accuracy with regard to the transfer of changes in the complex certification process depending on changes to the construction.
