Review of the "School landscapes" module in the winter semester 2024/25
The school grounds of the "Glück Auf" grammar school in Dippoldiswalde offer its pupils a lot of open space, which should be improved in the future. In addition, this outdoor space also suffers from increasingly frequent climate extremes such as heat waves and heavy rainfall, which is why the students and teachers expressed a desire for a climate-resilient learning space and the school management approached the TUD.
Against this background, landscape planning students worked in interdisciplinary groups with student teachers from the Chair of Geographic Education to develop their own concepts, which combined open space planning in the landscape context of the school site with designs for didactic use. The topic of "Education for Sustainable Development" was to be integrated into both Departments.
In a self-organized workshop at the school, which was part of the assignment for this module, the students also collected wishes from pupils of all grades, which were incorporated into the groups' concepts. The module participants presented their final results on January 31, 2025 in the form of short "elevator pitches" and a subsequent gallery walk to a working team of students, teachers and parent representatives at the high school. The next steps are now being planned at the school in order to implement the most convincing concept components on the school grounds.
The project was presented to interested teachers and scientists from other educational projects at the "Good Practice Day" of the school contact point (TUD).
Special thanks go to the school management of the "Glück Auf" grammar school and the Chair of Geographic Education at the TUD for this open and constructive collaboration.
