Urban Planning Design for Port de Marseille Bassins Est

Marseille, one of the oldest port cities in the Mediterranean region, faces the ongoing challenge of redefining the relationship between the port and the city.
The goal of the design is to preserve the port as a space for production and logistics, while simultaneously developing it into an open and resilient urban space with new qualities for public life, climate, work, and social participation.
• What significance does the port hold for Marseille today and in the future?
• What urban and ecological qualities can the port areas offer the city?
• How can the port’s accessibility and usability be improved, particularly for the northern neighborhoods?

Alexanderplatz has always been a place of great symbolic,
historical, and urban significance. As a literary and cinematic
icon and as the setting for pivotal events in German
history, it reflects Berlin’s ruptures and upheavals. In accordance with various
visionary concepts of the 20th century, the square was repeatedly reimagined, most recently
called into question once again following reunification. The AIV Schinkel Competition
2027 is therefore seeking a forward-looking vision for Alexanderplatz and
its surroundings: an open, mixed-use neighborhood focused on the common good, featuring
new public, cultural, and social offerings. The focus is on
the transformation of existing structures, climate-resilient open spaces, improved connections,
, and a vibrant city center for a diverse urban community.

THE AIV-SCHINKEL COMPETITION 2027
is an international, open ideas and funding competition

The competition submission deadline is February 8, 2027

With the specialization module "FINALLY URBAN" we offer the opportunity to prepare a free diploma topic for the following semester.
You can either work on one topic individually or on several.
The module is aimed at students who want to do an urban planning diploma in Wise 26 with the Chair of Urbanism and Design Prof. Melanie Humann.
We offer urban design work as well as scientific-theoretical or scientific-design work.
