| Group work possible. BERLIN LIMBO Urban planning alternatives to the 17th construction phase of the A100 in Berlin Between highway concrete and club culture, between climate crisis and mobility turnaround: The urban design studio BERLIN LIMBO is developing urban planning alternatives to the 17th construction section of the A100 - in one of Berlin's currently most controversial infrastructure areas. Instead of simply continuing the "car-friendly city", the reserved areas are being used as a field of experimentation for new visions of an ecological, socially just and liveable city. The focus is on areas and places that have so far been overshadowed by the development dynamics due to being reserved for the highway: culturally used fallow land along the S-Bahn between Treptower Park and Ostkreuz (including ://about blank, Wilde Renate, Neue Zukunft), hidden productive quarters with studios, residential projects and sports as well as a large wasteland between the tracks and Parkaue. These islands in the "limbo" between long-term infrastructure plans and an unclear future have developed into biotopes of clubs, culture, small businesses, experimental and ecosystems - and at the same time are under pressure from a possible highway expansion. The task includes - the development of transformational urban and open space planning scenarios for the reserved areas of the 17th construction phase - from the "instead of highway" to hybrid infrastructures. - Strategies for how new productive districts, green and open spaces, cultural and mobility spaces can be created instead of wide concrete aisles, or how existing infrastructure can be repurposed for clubs, sport and culture. - Speculative futures of a "permanent provisional" that deal with temporary structures, climate adaptation, multi-coding and an uncertain future. |
Seminare
The module City and Landscape in an Urban Context deals with the design,
development, planning and transformation of the city, concepts and strategies of
of open space planning in the urban context as well as cross-cutting issues,
problems and solutions from the fields of landscape architecture,
urban planning and urban development in their respective historical and social contexts.
context for the sustainable development of the city and landscape
will be dealt with.
In the summer semester 2026, the module will again be held jointly at the
Chair of Urbanism and Design and the Chair of Landscape Architecture
will take place. It consists of a lecture series and exercises.
The lectures take place on 10 dates, always on Wednesdays in the second
double hour from 09:20 to 10:50. The exercises take place in the form of
compact workshops on 7 dates from April to June 2026, always on Wednesdays
after the lectures from 11:10 to 18:10.
The module begins on April 15, 2026 with the first lecture and the first
exercise.
The work is carried out in mixed teams consisting of two landscape architecture
and four architecture students. The focus is on collaboration and
and exchange between the two disciplines.
The subject of the exercises is an urban space in Dresden's Friedrichstadt district, between
between Koreanischer Platz and Flügelweg as well as between the freight station
Dresden-Friedrichstadt, Wachsbleichstraße and Bremer Straße.
Straße. This urban space is to be rethought in the future and different development
development scenarios for it.
The focus of the study is on the currently highly divisive street space
Schäferstraße and Hamburger Straße and the adjacent urban spaces on both sides.
urban spaces on both sides.
The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Office for Urban Planning.
Vertiefungsmodul
With the specialization module "FINALLY URBAN" we offer the opportunity to prepare a free diploma topic for the following semester.
You can either work on one topic individually or on several.
The module is aimed at students who want to do an urban planning diploma in Wise 26 with the Chair of Urbanism and Design Prof. Melanie Humann.
We offer urban design work as well as scientific-theoretical or scientific-design work.
