Smart Country Convention 2024: WISSENSAR­CHITEKTUR shared experiences from the Model Project Smart City with Co-Design and Lordimas

WISSENSARCHITEKTUR - Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture was represented with two presentations at this year's Smart Country Convention in Berlin. The speakers reported on their experiences in the Model Project Smart City Dresden, which they are carrying out together with the state capital of Dresden as the scientific lead.

At the stand of the funding body, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, Torsten Holmer presented the participation tool U_CODE. With the co-design tool, users can flexibly add new buildings, green or other usable areas to an urban landscape in the 3D model, create designs, build on them or comment on them. U_CODE was and is used by WISSENSARCHITEKTUR in several urban development projects. The successor version Scenerii was spun off as a start-up in 2024.

WISSENSARCHITEKTUR leader Prof. Jörg Rainer Noennig in turn shared his experience with the LORDIMAS Toolbox. The model project had registered for the LORDIMAS check, which was offered by the Capgemini team. There was great interest on the Dresden side because the city is currently in the process of implementing the smart city strategy created in the first phase of the pilot project (2022-23).

The LORDIMAS maturity assessment not only helped to verify the feasibility and scope of the new strategy, but also played a key role in supporting its practical implementation. Looking at the development status of the smart city strategy, the digital twin and the targeted urban data use from both a governance and technology perspective, they were able to identify important cornerstones and action requirements for the process going forward, says Noennig.

In addition, the Dresden team and its research and innovation partners at Digital City Science @ HCU Hamburg are currently discussing further upscaling opportunities with Capgemini, not only for the local Dresden strategy, but for other projects and city collaborations across Europe.

The Smart Country Convention, "the leading event for the digital state and public services", sees itself as a driving force for the future of digital administration and smart cities.
