„Transformations“ – Summer School in Buenos Aires
"Transformations" - Summer School in Buenos Aires
From 18 to 24 October 2022, the Chair of Design and Construction I organised a Summer School at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). For this purpose, Prof. Ansgar Schulz and Prof. Benedikt Schulz travelled to Argentina together with research assistant Katharina Benjamin at the invitation of Tristán Dieguez, Professor at the Facultad de Arquitectura Diseno y Urbanismo (FADU). The Summer School was planned as a seven-day workshop that highlighted potentials in dealing with the architectural heritage, imparted professional knowledge and gave insight into German teaching and research practice. Lectures on the challenges and opportunities of industrial building culture, the current problems in Argentina as well as outstanding examples of deindustrialisation and the sustainable preservation of building heritage provided an introduction and input. The focus was on trying out the strategies taught on a concrete architectural object, a 19th century building used as a workshop in which sculptures from the urban space are being refurbished and restored. The participating FADU students dealt with the existing building and developed architecturally robust concepts that strengthen the site.
