Prof. Dr. habil. Sonja Hnilica researches and teaches the theory and history of architecture and the city. She has taught at the TH Lübeck, the TU Dortmund, the University of Heidelberg and the TU Vienna, among others.

Hnilica publishes on the history of architecture and urban planning from the 19th to the 21st century and also works as an exhibition curator. Her work is located at the interface between architectural theory and architectural history, and she is particularly interested in transdisciplinary perspectives. Her thematic focus is on the architecture of post-war modernism, the architectural theory of modernism, educational construction, metropolitan education, architectural media, gender theory and the formation of knowledge in architectural and urban planning discourses.
