Forschung
Research Areas
The Chair of Urbanism conducts research on urban and regional transformation processes in the context of socio-ecological changes, technological development, and global urbanization.
In this context, we always view urban planning as a collaborative and co-productive practice aimed at further developing the city and the countryside as a shared living environment—including for future generations.
We are currently working on externally funded projects focusing on construction activity in Saxony during the post-reunification period from 1990 to 1999, the heating (and cooling) transition at the neighborhood level, and co-production in urban and rural development. Our research is always interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, combining theoretical knowledge with expertise from planning practice.
For municipalities, cooperatives, and public-interest initiatives, we conduct urban planning studies as part of urban planning seminars or design projects. This allows municipalities, for example, to explore initial possibilities and strategies in the lead-up to urban planning procedures. This gives students the opportunity to engage with current urban planning challenges and research questions.
