German-French double diploma
Since the winter semester 2008/09, the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Strasbourg (ENSAS) have been offering a German-French double degree in architecture. The integrated major or master's program is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of the architectural culture and practice of the partner country and to open up a wide range of opportunities on the international job market through in-depth language skills.
The German-French Double Diploma in Architecture is a study program sponsored by the German-French University (DFH).
Admission requirements
Dresden students who wish to participate in the German-French Double Diploma must have successfully completed the first three years of study or provide proof of corresponding, credited knowledge. The language level B2 ("independent use of language") in French is required.
Preparation
The Technical Language Center of the TU Dresden always offers a special French course in the winter semester as preparation for the stay in Strasbourg. The course contents include the technical vocabulary for architecture as well as presentation and argumentation in French.
Duration of studies and credits
In order to receive the German-French double diploma, 50% of the course work of the main subject study must be completed at the partner university. The studies at ENSAS take place in the 7th and 8th semester and start in the winter semester. Study and examination achievements in Strasbourg will be credited at the TU Dresden towards the achievements to be made in the main course of study. Within the framework of the program, French lessons as well as an internship in France or a French-speaking country of at least two months duration are mandatory.
Graduation
The diploma presentation takes place before a committee composed of representatives from both universities. Upon successful completion of the integrated study program in architecture, the double diploma is awarded, consisting of the Diplôme d'Etat d'architecte of ENSAS (equivalent to the academic degree "Master"), the diploma in architecture of the Technical University of Dresden (academic degree "Diplom-Ingenieur") as well as the DFH certificate.
Supervision of students
The supervision of the German-French double diploma in architecture is carried out at the TU Dresden by the Chair of Architectural History, Prof. Hans-Georg Lippert and Kerstin Zaschke. At ENSAS in Strasbourg, the supervision is provided by Pascale Marion (Responsable pédagogique) and Jill Ferrier (Relations internationales / Mobilités).
