Project Description
In glass and facade construction, adhesive bonding technology is the key to countless innovations. 15 companies and two research institutions that came together and formed the ZIM network KLEBTECH on 1st October 2018 are pursuing the objective of further developing and implementing this joining technology. The work that the network does is funded by the BMWi. Key focus areas include quality assurance and damage tolerance of the adhesive bonding technology.
All-glass structures without any mechanical connections, material bonding of glass with new, innovative materials, or the resource-efficient handling of glass are among the innovative ideas that can be derived from a quality-assured, organised adhesive bonding process. Non-destructive testing, mechanical adhesive bonding, or even adhesive bonding processes monitored with sensors have yet to become established in the field of construction, and would therefore represent a significant and innovative leap forward in this sector.
Moreover, precisely reproducible adhesive properties can be highly relevant to practical implementation in construction, as this could negate any reservations among the parties involved in construction. The dimensioning, design and implementation of bonded glass is not yet covered by the glass construction standards that are currently in place. There are currently only standardised assessment, testing, and design guidelines for SSG systems. New assessment processes in engineering are of great importance to developments in construction.
