Objectives and work programme
Photovoltaics are currently frequently used in the glazing elements of mullion and transom facades. The opaque surfaces offer great potential for electricity generation using solar energy. Opaque surfaces in mullion and transom structures are often designed as insulated panels. By integrating photovoltaic modules into panels used in this way, the opaque components not only take on the conventional functions of the building envelope, such as weather protection, heat protection and design, they also take on the additional function of energy generation.
The objective of this research project is to contribute to the research and development of an insulated panel with integrated photovoltaics for use in mullion and transom structures and which will fulfil architectural, structural, physical and economic requirements.
