Projektbeschreibung
For architects and structural engineers, the high flexibility of thin glass enables more individuality and free forms of facades while having a low self-weight. As a flexible, transparent material, thin glass can be used in adaptive, movable facades. High safety requirements for architectural glazing, are not met by available monolithic thin glass. In addition, thin glass is still a relatively new material in the building sector.
The aim of the research project is to develop of laminated thin glass with a safe breakage behavior. The project focuses on the development of a suitable interlayer and the investigation of the bonding behavior. The interlayer should both ensure the safety-relevant properties (e. g. impact resistance, splinter-free breakage) and enable a cyclic bending deformation of the laminated safety glasses. In addition to single interlayer films, multilayer sandwich films are considered. Furthermore, the processes of film fabrication and lamination with thin, flexible panes will be investigated and a quality assurance concept will be developed. Since many standardized test methods are not designed for thin glass and its high flexibility, it is necessary to develop test methods for investigating the bonding behavior of thin glass laminates. Of particular interest is the determination of the influence of cyclic bending loads on the laminated glass. These and other material, as well as full scale tests, will be used to develop a numerical model. With this model, a parameter study is carried out to investigate the influence of different dimensions and loads.
