Objectives and work programme
The objective of the project is to develop innovative, point-fixed glass facades for use in Vietnam. As part of the research project, bonded point fixing systems are to be developed as an alternative to conventional point fixing systems using screws. With screwed point fixing systems, the loads transmitted in the areas where the glass must be drilled can lead to high stress peaks in the glass. Bonded point fixings do not require any holes to be drilled in the glass. The load transmission via the adhered surfaces leads to an even distribution of stress across the glass, with low concentrations. As yet, there is no precedent for using bonded load-bearing glass-metal connections under tropical climate conditions. To this end, new types of brackets for bonded point-fixed facades are to be developed and evaluated, with particular attention paid to the extreme climate conditions in the tropics during the design process. This subproject is therefore dedicated both to the technological challenges faced by manufacturers and to creating adhesive bonds that are optically and structurally flawless. The results will be verified on a component scale.
