Workshop on Sustainable Management of Public Buildings Successfully Held at TU Dresden
On 7 November 2025, the Institute of Construction Informatics at TU Dresden hosted the workshop “Sustainable Management of Public Buildings – Leveraging Synergies Through Integrated Resources” in the newly renovated Beyerbau. Representatives from the Staatsbetrieb Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB), the City of Dresden, and experts from academia and industry joined for a day of intensive exchange, presentations, and hands-on demonstrations.
Exploring Digital Models and Integrated Data
The workshop opened with a series of presentations on the creation and use of digital building models for Facility Management and energy optimization.
Topics included:
-
BIM and FM models of the NUR and Beyerbau buildings
-
Energy management models developed in collaboration with SachsenEnergie
-
A national cloud solution for future BIM projects
Participants emphasized the growing need for structured, standardized building data, including room information, technical systems (RLT, ELT, SAN), thermal data, consumption metrics, and weather datasets.
Platforms, Visualization, and Real-World Use Cases
The second session showcased TU Dresden’s digital infrastructure:
-
The CAVE Virtual Reality Laboratory demonstrated immersive building system exploration
-
The TouchTable Lab illustrated interactive FM visualizations
-
The City of Dresden presented current and future approaches to user participation in building projects
Participants identified key workflows from inspection and maintenance, through robotics and VR-based data capture, to data preparation, processing, and visualization.
Integrated Solutions and Hands-On Exploration
In cooperation with Collaprime Oy, participants rotated through three demonstration rooms to test the Collaprime Collaboration Platform, a system enabling cross-organizational data access, communication, and project coordination.
Group Work: Identifying Collaboration Potentials
During moderated group sessions, participants jointly explored opportunities for closer cooperation between:
-
TU Dresden
-
SIB
-
City of Dresden
-
Technical departments and industry partners
Common priorities included:
-
Shared data ecosystems and standardized interfaces
-
Joint research and teaching projects
-
Use of real buildings as pilot environments
-
Sensor and robotics testing
-
Application of VR/XR for training, communication, and planning
Next Steps
The workshop concluded with concrete steps to advance cross-institutional collaboration, including data-sharing concepts, joint project proposals, and further meetings to develop integrated digital workflows.
The Institute of Construction Informatics thanks all participants for their contributions and looks forward to continuing the joint development of sustainable, digitally supported building management solutions.
