LAP
Leonhardt, Andrä and Partner GmbH
(Stuttgart, Germany)
-- Project Coordinator --LAP is a leading german design company in the field of structural engineering, and especially in structural dynamics. New calculation methods have been developed and transfered into computer programs which simulate the dynamic loads and the reaction of the structure as a linked system and also visualise the performance of the structure via monitoring the results on screen. In this way the design of different structures has been improved, e.g. bridges, towers and computer chip production plants.
Together with partners and collaborators, LAP has contributed decisevely to the development of incrementally launched bridges, cable-stayed bridges, suspended roofs, post-tensioning systems, Neopot bearings, shear comb connectors.
Contributions to COMBI in:
- the development of the "Expert System for Preliminary
Design"
(together with CIB) - the overall verification of the developed prototypes

DAP
D'Appolonia S.p.A.
(Genoa, Italy)
DAP is an engineering design, consulting and software development company. Its staff has advanced technological background and experience and is able to apply its skills and provide consulting services on projects for offshore, transportation and environment engineering structures, with research and development know-how in all those fields.
During the early years of geotechnical engineering development, DAP pioneered applications of basic soil mechanics to the design and construction of foundations and earthworks for industrial and power expansion. The firm has always maintained a multidiscipline staff with expanded capabilities in material science, risk and safety, and system engineering. It has undertaken various complex endeavours in a range of world-wide projects.
DAP provides expertise, skill and analytical tools for the solution of a wide range of problems. Activities include geotechnical, geological and structural engineering, risk, reliability and safety analyses, system development and environmental projects. A full range of engineering services are provided - from feasibility studies to final design of complex projects. DAP is at the forefront of system engineering, both in technological applications and in analytical techniques. Probabilistic methods and expert systems are used for the interpretation of component behaviour for various civil and industrial engineering applications.
At present (1995) DAP comprises about 50 persons and has an average business turnover of about 7 billion lire per year.
Contributions to COMBI in:
- development of the "Expert System for Geotechnical Soil Characterisation and Foundation Design" (FD-XPS)
- integration of the FD-XPS into the integration framework of COMBI

CIB
Chair
"Computeranwendungen im Bauwesen"
TU Dresden
(Dresden, Germany)
CIB, an institute at Dresden University of Technology is doing research in the field of applied computer science with emphasis in the field of product and process modelling, distributed databank systems and applied AI such as knowledge based systems, reasoning systems and machine learning methods. The current research projects are supported by the local state of Saxonia (2 researchers), the German Research Foundation (4 researchers), and the EU (3 researchers).CIB is a leading partner in the research and development programmes ESPRIT projects 6609 COMBI and 20587 TOCEE. Its role within COMBI is to design an integrated product modelling framework so that the existence and the necessity of mapping of different modelling views and model decompositions onto the same building components can be adequately considered in a unified approach.
Contributions to COMBI in:
- overall integration concepts
- development of the "RC Expert System" (RD-XPS)
- development of the "Preliminary Design Expert System" (PRED)
