Laboratories at the Institute
The Chair of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and the working group of Applied Geology possess laboratories which are both situated at the Neuffer-Bau.
At the soil mechanics laboratory of the Chair of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering disturbed and undisturbed soil samples with different grain sizes (from clay to coarse gravel) are analysed regarding their mechanical, hydraulic and thermal characteristics.
The working group of Applied Geology has a geological laboratory where mineralogical, petrographical analyses are conducted.

Geological Collection
Besides the laboratories the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering has also a geological collection. The collection contains more than 37.000 exhibits and is divided into 15 subcollections. The exhibition is directed and used by the working group of Applied Geology and the Custody of the TU Dresden. The geological collection is located in the Georg-Schumann-Bau at the TU campus.
