Abstract:
This paper examines the substitutability of common building materials for structural components with ecological alternatives. In a first step, the building materials are examined more closely on the basis of technical specifications, such as the static and physical building requirements. With the help of localisation, not only their potentials but also existing innovations are presented. In addition, the ecological, economic, constructional and approval-related limits of established as well as potentially sustainable building materials are shown. Subsequently, an evaluation of the sustainability of potentially ecological building materials is carried out with the help of an evaluation method developed within the framework of this work. In doing so, not only the technical aspects obtained so far are taken into account, but also the ecological and economic quality of the building materials under consideration of selected evaluation criteria. For the purpose of systematic decision preparation, the procedure of utility value analysis is used for decision-making. With the help of this procedure, an evaluation of sustainability is then carried out using seven wall-building materials as examples.
