Abstract:
This thesis shows that the regulations regarding life cycle assessment for civil engineering structures are insufficiently systematised and established. Furthermore, the ecological sustainability of carbon concrete construction in relation to classic reinforced concrete variants is demonstrated. This comparison was made on the basis of self-assessed indicator values. For this purpose, two life cycle assessments were carried out. The systems under consideration are real superstructures of pedestrian and cycle bridges, made of carbon or reinforced concrete respectively. The conclusion drawn from the information and data collected confirms the lower potential environmental impact of choosing carbon concrete construction. It was also found that the informative value of life cycle assessments in the infrastructure sector can be improved by extending existing tools beyond the building construction sector.
