Abstract:
This thesis develops a survey methodology for types and causes of renovation measures in building construction in Germany. The focus is on the question of how renovations can be systematically classified and structured. To this end, theoretical principles and definitions of renovation, building construction and building in existing structures are first developed. This is followed by an analysis of research needs and a literature and data search on renovation and building renovation. Based on this, a structure of types and causes is developed using a classification/typology. Expert interviews are conducted to verify and further expand the typologies already recorded. The study provides insights into the efficiency and sustainability of renovation measures. It becomes clear that there is no uniform definition of renovation in Germany and that there is a need for one. Finally, the results are summarised and placed in the context of future developments. The work thus contributes to the systematic recording and evaluation of renovation processes in building construction.
